Eric was born in Southern California and grew up mainly there and in the Bay Area. He has also lived in New Mexico, Tennessee, Texas, and Alaska both during his childhood and his career. While growing up, he always was interested in mathematics, science, and the natural world. Encouraged by his parents, he explored the outdoors and helped with the garden and livestock in their semi-rural setting. He earned his bachelor’s at Caltech and his doctorate at Stanford and subsequently pursued a career in a diverse array of scientific computing applications. He was introduced to Hidden Villa during a night hike he was invited to by a previous board member and immediately decided to become involved. He started out working in Frank’s old blacksmith shop, doing demos and classes, leaving his impact on the organization. He is drawn to the larger goals of education, conservation by repurposing and reuse, and resource stewardship. He hopes to continue his engagement by applying his competency in manufacturing, construction and project management.
