Lara lived in many parts of California moving in a northern direction. Prior to moving to the Bay Area she lived in a small farming community on a ranch. Lara worked in Marketing Education at Hewlett-Packard, taught in MVLA’s adult education program, and worked for 8 years in a non-profit developing and managing a program that brought author visits and book donations to local school districts including the Ravenswood School District in East Palo Alto. Lara first came to Hidden Villa as a field volunteer with the fabulous farm team. She then also volunteered as a docent for Farm Tours. She is delighted to now be a part of the Education team. Lara values the opportunity the Education Program provides for local kids to step away from the hectic pace and stress they often live and learn in. When students visit the farm they have a chance not only to learn about environmental science and farm life but also a chance to experience a connection to the natural world. That connection can lead to empathy and stewardship. It can also frontload their future studies in science when they return to the classroom. Lara likes to check in with the farm animals regularly and enjoys the surrounding trails. She is currently gathering and reading a long list of mission-related books.
