AFTER SCHOOL ADVENTURES

HV Photo

For Grades K – 6

1 class per week for 11 weeks: Thursdays, or Fridays

September 21 to December 8

After a full day of school, give your child the chance to spend their afternoons exploring Hidden Villa’s farm and wilderness. Our education staff will help students self-direct their learning as they work in small groups (8 student maximum) to engage with our farm animals, observe wild critters, take hikes through the forest, discover native plants, cultivate their green thumbs, and express their creativity and curiosity in a natural setting. Through inquiry-based learning, this program will reinforce the new Next Generation Science Standards used in most classrooms and feel more like play than instruction. Your children will come home from Hidden Villa full of fresh air and more closely connected to our natural world of wonder.

Transportation to and from Hidden Villa must be arranged by the child’s caregiver.

For all class dates, go to:After School

Fee: 300/child

Fiddles & Fun on the Farm

HV Photo

Fiddles & Fun on the Farm: A Country Dance is a family fundraiser that includes a tasty farm supper created by Chef Mo L’Esperance, Executive Chef of the Lodge at Tiburon, formerly of Costanoa Resort, a unique silent auction, and music and dancing with caller Andy Wilson and his band.

Proceeds provide our neighbors at the Community Services Agency of Mountain View with fresh Hidden Villa produce.

Come dressed for farm fun with family and friends!

Interested in Sponsoring? Half of the money needed to operate Hidden Villa each year comes from program fees and we work in partnership with our community to provide the other half. When you become a Sponsor, you become part of this community of support and declare that access to and stewardship of Hidden Villa are priorities. Hidden Villa Sponsors are invited to and recognized at Our Annual Gathering, Fiddles & Fun on the Farm, and Duveneck Forums. Email us at Sponsorship@hiddenvilla.org to get a Sponsorship Packet and save on credit card fees.

Big Buzz about Bees

HV Photo

For children of all ages, with guardian

Bees are wonderful, helpful creatures.. and this class, designed especially for children, is a terrific way to introduce them in a fun and age-appropriate way to this amazing, tiny winged friend of humans. Teacher Kendal will open your child's eyes, and yours too, with stories and lots of interesting things to show about an often unfairly feared little being.

Everyone gets a chance to see and touch all the parts of a working beehive and learn about the tools that it takes to be a beekeeper. We’ll talk about how bees collect pollen and nectar and contribute to many of the foods and products we love. We’ll also explore the many jobs that the different types of bees do inside and out of the hive. The class wraps up with taking a peek inside of a real working hive (it’s completely contained safely behind plexiglass) so we can see real worker bees caring for young larvae, making honey, and if we’re lucky, we may be able to spot the queen bee! And of course, we’ll taste the sweet rewards of beekeeping - honey harvested locally in Los Altos!

There are so many kinds here on the farm, all so important for growing everything we eat, from fruits and veggies to milk and ice cream. Children will learn the connections between compost and soil, sample veggies growing in our garden, then craft a special planting project to bring home for their very own garden. Nature Visualization

HV Photo

Are you looking for a new activity to kindle your child's creativity? Are you looking for a Mindfulness program for kids? How about the Art of Flower Arrangement and Visualization? Nature Visualization is a fun and simple way to teach mindfulness to kids.

We believe that flowers and plants can help people of all ages to reconnect with nature. For some kids this will be their first hands-on floral experience. Flowers are pretty, bright and beautiful with so many shapes and scents that your child will be captivated by the experience. At the end of the class kids will know how to create a flower arrangement with love and care for the nature. There is an emerging body of research that indicates mindfulness can help children with emotional regulation and cognitive focus. Mindfulness, defined simply, means "paying attention".

All proceeds from this course go to the Outside2Inside non-profit organization, which is working towards food waste in Santa Clara County. For more details go to our website: https://outside2inside.com/nature-visualization/
